Stupid Halloween

I know that statement comes as a surprise to anyone who knows me and knows that Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. However, it is specifically about an issue that I'm having right now.

I'm smart when it comes to Halloween costumes. Every year on Nov 1st, I head for Target and pick up next years costumes at 50%. It makes my kids pick costumes a year in advance but they seem ok with it thus far. So last year, TB said he wanted to be a ninja. I bought the black ninja costume and hung it in the closet. In the past year, he has developed his Star Wars obsession and asked to change to Darth Maul. Hey, no biggie, Darth Maul looks sort of like a ninja so we can make the costume work, I just need a mask. I went to both the Halloween stores that have sprung up in town to no avail. I went to Dallas and Company which has everything you could ever need for Halloween. They had a mask but it was adult sized and it was $25 dollars. Plus, it was full head, over the neck mess and TB said it hurt to pull it on and off. I don't really want to pay $25 for something I'm going to have to "make work" I started looking online and found a website that sells nothing but Star Wars costumes and they have the mask. They have child sized and they have 2 options. One is full head and is like $13 dollars plus shipping. The other is a half face (thus not as hot and sticky in case this warm weather holds) plastic mask for $8 plus shipping. Either is doable and I'll have RF look at them when he gets home to see which he thinks. He is the other Star Wars fan in the family after all.

While I was there, I was looking at some adult costumes for me. TB has mentioned that he would like to have me dress up as someone from Star Wars and I'm not opposed to that, if I can find something cheap enough. I was looking at Padme because she is Luke's mom and TB is talking about being Luke next year (I'd like to get RF a Vader costume and convice MT to be Leia but that is more than a little nerdy LOL). My question is, why does EVERY SINGLE woman's costume have to have a "sexy" option? Can't an woman want to dress as a nurse or a referee or a devil or a Star Wars character without wanting to look like a whore? Second question, why does the woman's sizes only go up to 16 (Queen Amidala's goes to 20 which is a little better), when the male characters go up to a 46. Leia only goes to 12 for crying out loud. I realize that Carrie Fisher was a giant crackhead and super skinny while playing Leia but I want to know why Luke and Han (both trim, nice looking guys) could be worn by guys the size of my brother, who is pushing 300lbs. Talk about unrealistic.

I wear a 16 or an 18, depending on the cut. The Padme costume is too clingy to make a good costume but I'm not thrilled with being Amidala because it is a big heavy costume. I always have issues with available sizes of women's cloths but this is irritating me beyond the typical irritation. If I can't find fat girl costumes on the web, where am I supposed to find them at?

Fun Start to my kid free weekend

I got the kids all packed off for their weekend without me about 8. I had time to eat breakfast and get ready to leave before Makeup Girl and her kids picked me up to go blueberry picking. She was super sweet and brought me some iced coffee for our trip to the country! :)

Berry picking was a little slim. :( There were several bushes that, in a few days, will be perfect. They were overflowing with green berries but they just weren't ready yet. There were also several bushes that just had nothing on them at all, except bugs. We ended up being there about 45 minutes before the bugs and the heat got to us and we decided to leave. I came home, had lunch and took a quick nap.

Then this afternoon, Rogers and I went shopping for swimsuits. I found nada :( However Rogers for a cute bikini top and we had a good time chatting and getting to know each other (finally, I hear Looseyfur and Quigs talk about her all the time but we haven't had a chance to hang out much). We found that we have wildly different tastes in clothing, but that is ok. :)

Now I'm going to go grill some ribs and maybe make corn for dinner and then I'm going to watch Lost and then I'm going to go to bed so I can go shopping up north with Quigs and Loosey tomorrow.

Good day, Sunshine

This morning, we went to the park with Quigs and crew as well as a few other playgroup fams. It was fun and we were there for nearly 2 hours. Came home and had lunch and then put Ms Thang down for her nap. After the nap, we hit the pool and styaed there for about an hour and a half. Came home to cook dinner (can you see the theme here LOL), only to find the meat I put out to thaw a solid block of frozen beef :( Decided to go to McDonald's instead because there was no way that the meat was going to thaw enough to get it apart and even if it did, there is no way that I could have gotten it to thaw enough to get it on the sticks for th kabobs. I Called Quigs because she up for anything and since they are moving tomorrow, I knew the kitchen would be all packed up so they would need to go somewhere to eat, might as well be with us :)

My mom joined us as well and the kids ate and played. PG ate half a cheeseburger which is crazy because she weighs about as much as can of pop! They had to leave so we went ahead and came home. I decided to go to Walgreens to see if I could find a banana clip, even though Quigs says "no banana clips". I found one and tried it as soon as I got home. I should have just listened to Quigs because it seriously looked like an animal had created a nest in my hair. I'll be taking it back tomorrow morning because it was crazy bad. The kids had "blue moon" ice cream (MT) and "Scooperman" (TB) and bowls of popcorn before coming home for the night. Then they watched some TV and I played on Facebook for a bit. Now they are in bed and I'm shopping online.

Looseyfur told me about Torrid recently and I've been looking around there. I've found a lot of really nice stuff, especially swimsuits. I really love this one although, I can't really justify spending as much for just the top as I did for my entire current suit. I'm also not sure that it would be any better than what I currently have (that I don't like because it is 2 piece and the top floats up all over the place)Also, I don't like skirts on swimsuits (as Quigs says, I'm just fat, not 80, thanks) but I dig this one skirt or not :) I will keep them in mind for the next time I need a suit though because maybe I can finally find something that fits right (which is worth a lot, especially since I pay upwards of $80, usually, for suits that only sort of fit)

Now I'm thinking of having a bowl of ice cream while I read my book before bed. Then I'm thinking that if I didn't eat all that ice cream, I wouldn't have to shop at places like Torrid and spend $80 on swimwear. Then I think "Screw it, I want the freaking ice cream" :)

Other girl: Hey, let me have that floatie (the pool has foam float things that the kids can use in the kiddie pool and MT was playing on one)
MT: No
OG: *grabs floatie trying to pull it out from under MT*
MT: Stop it, leave me alone
OG: Just give me the floatie
MT: *screaming* LEAVE ME ALONE
OG: You're rude
MT: You suck

Leave it to my child to break it down so simply ROFL

the fashion battle

I bit the bullet and took Lizzie to Walmart today and bought her some dresses. I literally had to hold her down and stuff her into her pants to get her out of the house this am and I don't want to mess with it.

We got two wrap style (although it is all sewed together so no coming undone) dress in pink and green and two collared one with "ruffles for dancing" in pink and purple. They were $5 a piece and I picked up some clearance "tall socks" and capri tights to hold her over until it gets a little warmer.

Also, Missy mentioned that her daughter will only wear leggings that look good under her skirt. They actually had outfits out there that were dresses with leggings to match. Lizzie tried on a couple but I didn't like how they fit. The leggings were either too big in the waist or too short and the dresses were WAY too short to wear without. The dresses she got are nice and long. They come down nearly to her ankles and have a t-shirt top. That way she can wear them all summer and then next winter too with heavy tights. Can't ask for much more for $20 :)

2 year old fashions

Lizzie went through a thing awhile back where all she wanted to wear was pink and purple, which was hard because more of her clothes are hand-me-downs from C so very boyish. She finally got over that and started just wearing whatever. Then we bought her a clearance dress and she has decided that she wanted to wear it all the time. It was only one dress and I was able to put her off most of the time. Then my MIL came back from Mexico and brought her another dress so now she is really pushing. Then on Sunday, the Easter Bunny brought her a FANCY Easter dress that we are going to have pictures done in soon. So now she wants to wear a dress every single day! I'm seriously considering buying her about 6 little t-shirt style dresses and some tights and just letting her go to town.

On Saturday, she wanted to wear a dress and the only one clean was the light purple with the tank top sleeves. It was cold on Saturday so I told her that she could wear a t shirt under it. She wasn't having that and needed to wear her sweater that grandma got her from the covered bridge festival. It is knitted in light pink and dark purple and has puffy clouds and animals all over it. We couldn't find her tights so she decided to put on bright pink pants with white snowflakes on them. Over all that mess (as if it wasn't bad enough on it's own) she put her black "leather" motorcycle with the zippers and things on and topped it all off with a blue and orange jester hat.

I told her she was 2, she could pull it off and off we went to the store. My mom asked me how I would feel about that outfit if she wanted to wear it in 12 or 14 years, in a school picture. I told her that I would think that she was old enough to pick her own clothes, she would look unique and different and at least her skin would be covered and she wouldn't look tramp-y and whorish like most girls I see. The only problem I would have would be if she were trying to use the EXACT same clothes :)

Retro clothes

C has a retro family dance at school next month. I had thought that we would do a 50s theme because that would be easy enough for C. Jeans, a white tshirt and slicked back hair with his tennis shoes. No fuss no muss. Lizzie was going to be a little bit harder and I was thinking of buying her the 50s girl halloween costume with poodle skirt and all. Then I decided that I didn't want to spend that much money so I decided to do that 80s (because, hey, 20 years ago is retro right). I thought I would dress Liz in one of C's big t-shirts, a wide belt and leggings or leg warmers if I could find them. I can't come up with anything for C from the 80s. I was looking at Member's Only jackets and parachute pants on Ebay. There is nothing in his size that is even close :( I remember my brother used to wear crap like that all the time so where is it all now?

Maybe we'll just span the decades. C can do the 50s, Liz can do the 80s and I can do the 90s (since I never left grundge behind, that will be easy LOL) I could probably manage the 60s/70s as well, with a tie dyed shirt, jeans, and my birks. I used to have a "Broomstick skirt" that would have worked with my Birks but I don't have it anymore. I'd like to do 40s, since the clothes were so cool but that would require a major purchase since I have nothing that would work.
