Today was my birthday. WF came running into my room and told me I had to get up because he needed me in his room. I asked what was wrong and he told me it was an emergency and I needed to come right now. He seemed a little shifty, so I went to the bathroom first and then joined him in his room. I asked what the emergency was and he yelled "It's a birthday emergency" and gave me jazz hands. Then he presented me with my presents. He got me a card and a small cutting board with a pairing knife. He also made me pumpkin bars with help from my mom. Apparently, they went to Dollar Tree to get me a card and young guy overheard him talking about getting his mom a card. The guy gave him a dollar and told him he also had to get his mom a present! After appropriate thank yous, they spent a long time looking for something that I would like. He eventually settled on the cutting board because I've been complaining that I want a new cutting board for the kitchen. :) On the way home he said "hey, now mom has a knife to cut her pumpkin bars with! Best present ever!" LOL All my presents have been hidden in the house since Tuesday and I had no idea.
RF complained that I don't ever want anything for birthdays so yesterday when my headphones broke, he had a fit when I tried to by myself a new pair. Instead, he went and bought the pair I picked out and had MF give them to me. I got a nice card from work and a raspberry mocha and a cake pop after school :)
But quite possibly the best part of my birthday was the fact that I did absolutely NOTHING after I picked the kids up at school. I bought KFC for dinner, put on my jammies and spent the afternoon/evening sitting in my chair. i didn't have to run anyone anywhere or do much of anything. It was the best night of the week! :)

Happy Birthday, Peewee
So MF turned 6 today. It was sort of a no big deal kind of day. We did let her sleep in today and took her to the dinner of her choice tonight. I fully expected her to pick McDonald's like she always does, but she totally surprised me and went with Texas Roadhouse. Mostly, she just wanted the peanuts but she likes the spectacle that they make for birthdays. She had her friend party on Saturday and her family party on Sunday. He friend brought her all manned of neat toys and her family brought the cash. Best of both worlds! :) She had a pink princess party on Saturday and we decorated tiaras, played pin the heart on the necklace and beat a castle shaped pinata into submission. Sunday, we had all the grandmas over but this year was fun because we had other kids at the party for the first time ever. I'm super glad there are a few more short people around for these things now! :)
Here is a picture of both kids when they were first born. Wasn't she cute? Who would have guessed that she would turn out to be the tiny (or not so tiny, since her last check up put her 97% for height and 95% for weight or as her doctor called her "just a big, strong girl" :)) tyrant she is today?
Probably anyone who has ever met her, that's who! :)
Even if she is a tyrant, I think we'll keep her around since she is a pretty cool kid too! :)

Party Time! Excellent!
Today was Magnificent Freak's birthday party. I know her birthday isn't for two more weeks but we had her party today because, as I may have mentioned, my friend Fearless Phantom, is a freaking genius! We had talked about having MF's party at the movie theater but back in March, I had no idea what was coming out when and I wanted to get it planned. I had pretty much scrapped the idea (as well as FCC since apparently, you have to book it 3-5 months in advance for parties) when FP suggested trying to have the party at the free matinee. I called them and they said not only, "no problem, why can do that" but also said "plus with that amount of people, you'll get a discount on concessions"! Score! Genius, I tell you! So we booked the theater and sent out the invitations and Quigs emailed this idea for a cake. Again, Genius!
It was super easy to make, even for me, and tasted pretty decent. In that email, she also told me that they had movie themed stuff at Michael's in the dollar section. Who even knew that Michael's had a dollar section? Again I must say "Score"! So I got some need popcorn boxes and filled them with tiny cans of pop, microwave popcorn and candy. Goodie bags, done.
We invited 10 kids and their families and ended up with 37 people, 19 of them kids! I got to the theater at 9:30 to be sure that I got enough seats. I took crepe paper and reserved signed and taped off several rows of seats so we could all sit together. My parents came out with the kids at 10:30 and helped save seats so I could wait for the kids in the lobby. As they came in, each kid ordered their drink for their munchie box and FP helped usher them all to their seats. They all did a great job hanging out and watching the movie. While the kids were watching the movie, my parents decorated the party "room".
When the movie was over, the kids all came out to the party room and had cake.

Quigs and Loosey showed up, all sweaty from running a FREAKING MARATHON! The kids got their cool goodie boxes and headed for home (or to run their part of the marathon, in some cases). MF was super excited to get home and open her presents. I was amused that Quigs and Loosey got her the same card. It seems that great minds either think alike or go shopping together LOL

Check out the package on that one
I can't wait to see what kind of referrals I get from that title :)
MT's birthday was last weekend and she got a lot of really fun presents from her friends and family. She has really enjoyed playing with all her stuff but I have a complaint to make about most all of them. No, they weren't too loud or needed batteries or covered in lead based paint. No, no, they were all packed in pounds of packaging and were practically welded to the boxes. She got a cute Barbie pool and while Nonni was putting it together, I thought I would start opening some of the LPS stuff because one was a bath set and I thought they could go in the pool too. Instead, it took me longer to open the LPS bath set and get all of the pieces out and unraveled from the stretchy cords that were choking them than it did for my mom to put together the pool. That didn't take into account the LPS beach set or the Barbie that went with the pool, which each also took forever to open.
MT really enjoyed the toys and she says the animals had fun in the pool so it was worth untangling them but, holy cow, what a pain.
In all honesty, I'm not that "green" of a person. It takes time and money and energy and I just don't have an over abundance of any of those things and my issue with excess packaging is simply from a convenience stand point. But even being un-green, I can still see how much impact the sheer amount of stretchy ties tossed every year has on the environment.

Party time
October starts birthday season in our house. TB's birthday is October 19th, but we end up celebrating more of the month than not because of all the parties we have. Yesterday was the first one of those parties. We had his friends come to a pool party at the Aquatic Center.
The party went really well. As well as any gathering of lots of people can go. We got to the pool about 2:10 for the 2:45 party. The girl at the desk told us that people that had the room before us were still up there but they had the room until 2:15 so it wasn't a huge deal. We started carrying stuff upstairs, only to find out that they were just finshing up their food and hadn't even done the cake yet! We gave them until 2:20, when we told them that we really needed to get in the room get set up so they needed to get a move on. The mom came downstairs to find me and wanted to know if we were swimming first or going to the room first. I told her that we were going to room first, because even if we weren't, we needed to get it setup for when we were up there. By this time, it was 2:30 and things needed to get DONE! The guard told me then that if we needed them out, to let the head guard know and they would get them out. I went and got the head guard and she told them to book outta there, as they should have done on their own. They decided that they could have their cake sitting on the bleachers but they acted all upset that we wanted them out at the time they were supposed to be out. As soon as the last kid was through the door, I was in starting to set our stuff up. They came in and asked if we wanted them to clean up and I said of course I did, I would just work around them. Duh!
By then the guests started arriving and we got them in the pool with my dad and brother, while RF and I waited for additional guests. Once everyone got there, I got in the water with the kids, where they swam until about 3:30, when we called them for cake.
The cake was a little DIY because there was not a Star Wars cake to be had in this town. We had Walmart (who makes some darn good cakes) make a cake with black icing and orange writing and border. We had some Star Wars figures that we were going to wash and stick on the cake but Obi-Wan was missing his lightsaber so I went to Toys R Us to find some figures that we could use. I ended up finding the Obi-Wan and Anakin from the Mustafar battle, which was what we were trying to re-create with the black and orange. I set them up so they looked like they were battling and then stuck the darth vader candle holder on the other corner (it was a DV figure and the red candle went in his hands like his light saber).
TB asked if we could do presents as soon as we came upstairs and I agreed that once the cake and icing were everywhere, I didn't want the presents in the middle like that. So he opened his presents first and he got some really awesome stuff! He got 3 Lego Mission sets, all three were different, which is amazing. He also got a Star Wars Clone Wars clone trooper set, and a fighter ship. Then he opened a present that had two of the Clone Wars figures in it. As soon as he pulled them out, I started laughing. They were EXACTLY the same Mustafar battle figures that I bought the day before to put on the cake! No biggie though, we took them back today and exchanged them for 2 different figures (a light up R2D2 and a battle droid). Then we moved on to the cake.
We sat the cake in the middle of the table and sang to TB and then moved it to a side table to cut and serve. I pressed Frank, Missy's husband, into service as the cake delivery guy while mom cut and I scooped. The kids all dug in with wild abandon. The black icing made a CRAZY big mess. I took several pictures of the kids smeared in black icing, sticking their tongues out to show how black they were, etc. They thought it was pretty awesome :)
Once they were done with the cake, they went back down to the pool to wash the icing off. They swam until about 4:30, when most of the kids started trickling out. We rounded up TB (MT fell in the pool and hurt her toe and went home with my mom early) and made him get dressed and came home.
After we left, RF went to the doctor. He told me he didn't feel great at the party but he hung in there to help out. I figured he had bronchitis since I had it and Quigs has it and Looseyfur and Xman have an unspecified "respritory infection". Strangely enough, he came home with Strep. Boo! He was banished to his room for the rest of the night because I don't want that crap!

Odds and ends again
Yesterday was a busy day. I had to go grocery shopping, which takes half a day, then we booed the pool for TB's b-day party, then I cleaned the house, took TB shopping to spend his vast amounts of money ($35), cooked dinner, went to the school fundraiser meeting, then home to watch Lost.
Speaking of birthday days, I have apparently missed the boat on goody bags. Quigs made super cute summer fun sets for PG's b-day. S had purses for the girls and little baskets for the boys with cute fun summer stuff in them. Missy had neat bags with beach accessories in them and even had a CD of summer music in each to set the mood. At TB's last birthday, we did Harry Potter and since no goody bags were to be had, I had the kids decorate brown lunch sacks with HP stickers and some markers and then put in some bubbles, a rubber ball, some truck things, etc. Nothing thematic. In years past, I alwasy bought whatever theme items they had a FActory Card and called that good enough goody bag. MT has never had a birthday party were goody bags were given (family only so far). Now I'm thinking that I need to step up my efforts, lest I fall even further behind. This year is Star Wars so I should have an easier time of it.
CDs are also the new thing in goody bags. I need to find some good Star Wars music (I'm going to find the Weird Al songs and some of the score I think) to make for our CD and maybe a picture of TB dressed in his Star Wars halloween costume for the cover art.
I absolutely can not compete in the domestic games (or as RF tells me "of course you can. Someone has to come in last place LOL). I don't sew, I don't cook, I rarely make it if I can buy it, I'm inclined to eff the house, I'm going to the pool, etc. I can (and do) compete in the wit and sarcasm games. In fact I not only compete but I hold world records in sarcasm and bad attitude :)
Maybe I'm a selfish bitch (ok, before you call me a liar as well, I realize that I AM actually a selfish bitch but I keep hoping) but I'm really irritated by parents who bring no toys for their kids but expect other parents to share. We went to the "Hassle Park" today because I didn't want to go to the pool. I took the regular, 2 buckets, 3 shovels, one rake and a sifter. That way, I have enough for the kids to have what they want and to share with anyone they are playing with. What I didn't take was enough for every kid in the park to use. What I also didn't take was enough for a kid to accost me before I ever got to the park telling me that she could play with our stuff. Um, no you can't. What I also didn't take was stuff for the same kids (who were completely unsupervised) to come to my table while I was sitting there and just take the toys I told them they couldn't play with. I also didn't take things for the other kids to take and then refuse to give back when MY kids (the owners of the toys) wanted to play with them. The first few times they came to the table and took things, I would get up and politely tell them that I needed them bac because I wanted to keep everything together. After that, I tried to impart my brand of morals to them by telling them that it was very very rude to tae things from people without asking. That if it wasn't their's they shouldn't touch it because then it was stealing. When that didn't work, I demanded to be taken to their adult, which prompted both girls to run to the other side of the playground where I couldn't see them. I never did see them with an adult but I was ticked about the whole mess.
I get to go to a school meeting tonight. When I went to registration today, they had papers out about a "parent forum" about silent lunches and a few other things I don't really care about. I know that last year some of the classes had silent lunch because they were out of control. I don't think that a silent lunch policy across the board is acceptable. Show of hands, would you sit at a table with 8-10 co-workers and friends for 20 minutes, and say nothing to any of them? No you wouldn't, especially if you had nothing to do to entertain yourself while you sat there. Why would anyone think that it is an acceptable thing to have kids do? Unknown, but that is my point and I intend to make it!

3 years ago today
Ms. Thang was born. We planned a c-section for the next week but at the end of my pregnancy, I was suffering some severe swelling and a spike in BP. I tried to convince the doctor to let me have her on the 13th, which happened to be a Friday (because short of a halloween birthday, which I tried for with The Boy and missed, what could be better than Friday the 13th) but she said she only did scheduled c/s on Monday so I had to wait through the weekend.
I was supposed to have her at 8:15, meaning I had to be at the hospital by 6 to get prepped. While I was getting prepped, something bad things happened on the ward and my surgery, being not an emergency, got bumped back. Then, the doctors had to go and actually see patients in the office so I got bumped back even further. The major problem in all this was the fact that I couldn't eat for 12 hours before my surgery which was supposed to be at 8. By noon, I was ready to KILL for food. It wasn't until after 2 that I finally got taken back and doped up for the surgery. I had been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer every day on TV and it was the middle of the 7th and final season. Since I didn't have anything better to do, I was trying to watch an episode when they came to get me. I was irked because I had waited that long, I could stand to wait a few more minutes so I could see the end of the episode LOL
After I had her, they took her back to my room, where my brother was the first person to hold her. I had insisted that I be allowed to attempt nursing in recovery so they brought her down to me after a bit. I tried nursing and she wasn't interested (which was pretty much the story of our lives from then on out) so I held her for a few minutes until suddenly, I felt very sick. I yelled for the nurse who just managed to get me the puke pan before I lost it all over the baby. That was when the recovery nurses decided that she needed to go back to my room LOL

Party time
Ms Thang had her 3rd b-day celebration with the playgroup today. We were supposed to have it at my house but at 10, when the wather was saying 50% chance of rain and only a high of 61, I moved it to FCC Boy am I glad I did since it was pouring rain when we got there. Looseyfur, X-man, MacTroll,Quigs, PG and Bubba among other members of our playgroup joined us. It was super fun. Quigs brought MT baby puffs which cracks me up and Looseyfur brought her some balloons (which being the bad mom I am, I totally forgot to order the theme balloons for her b-day) with Dora and Deigo on them. I'm chosing to ignore the fact that I said no one needed to bring her anything since they are just too sweet to chastise about it LOL
When FCC closed, MacTroll mentioned that they were going to Jupiter's II for dinner and we all decided to tag along. I have to say I wasn't impressed. We had a party of 10 which I know is huge but as we were leaving they pushed together like 10 tables for a crazy big party so we weren't the worst of the night. Anyway, my review of Jupiters is basically that the food is over priced ($13.99 for a medium pizza) and the wait is insanely bad. We waited an hour for 3 pizzas and an order of cheese bread. Seriously? There is no call for a wait that long at 5 when they really weren't all that busy. Obviously, the wait is a marketing ploy because they have a huge game complex downstairs. They figure if you have to wait an hour for a pizza, you will drop an additional 50 bucks on games to kill time.
After we sat there for awhile, MacTroll and I took the kids big enough to go (PG was obviously too little to tag along) to look at some of the games upstairs so they weren't completely freaking out. Finally the food came and we managed to stuff food in their faces before bolting because they had all had it by then.
Tomorrow is MT's actual b-day. We will do presents with Daddy after The Boy gets out of school (early dismissal) and then presents with Nonni and Paw-Paw at McDonald's for dinner. Yes, we eat fast food far too often but it is her favorite meal and the birthday person gets to pick where we eat on his or her birthday. Then she wants to go to the pool so that is how we are spending her birthday :)

Birthday weekend recaplet, haircuts and friends
First, I need a haircut. I've been teasing Lizzie and calling her "shaggy dog" because her bangs are starting to get long and in her eyes again. I shouldn't talk because if I didn't part it the way I do, it would totally be in my eyes. It is too short to do anything with but too long just to let be. If I get it cut, it loses all the blond but I might get highlights or something like that. It will probably be awhile before I do anything with it though. If it could get longer, I could get it cut to this length and it would be tolerable.
We spent the weekend in Indy for my b-day. We were supposed to go over Friday and stay Saturday and Sunday. Because of the storm, we decided to drive over Thursday night so we would already be there if the weather turned yucky. Friday, we went to the Children's Museum, which was fun. Saturday (my b-day), we went to a "rainforest garden", then to Chuck E Cheese (they didn't give me a balloon or a crown, even though I told them it was my birthday :( ), then to a crappy hotel. We promptly checked out of it and went back to the original hotel where we had started out the weekend. Then to Outback for dinner (I wanted to try somewhere we had never been but my mom wanted to stick with something we knew would be good). Then back to the hotel to play in the pool. This morning, we got up and had breakfast and then played in the pool for awhile. Then we headed home. More in depth later, when I'm not trying to get involved in a new show (Dexter, edited for CBS)
And about my friends, April is the only person that wished me happy birthday besides my mom and my kids (prompted by my mom but C told me "Happy birthday" about every 20 minutes after he was reminded and Lizzie sang me happy birthday several time LOL). MJ got me a card and a gift certificate (which she totally shouldn't have done but i really appreciate it all the same) but gave it to me aahead of time since I was going to be out of town. I also got a couple of emails from people, so I was pretty happy about that :)
A final note, I'm so glad that Funfest is nearly over with. I will NEVER AGAIN, NO MATTER WHAT, chair a PTA committee (or probably any other committee for that matter). I will volunteer and do what I'm told within the committee, but never again will I be in charge!!

Birthday
Yesterday was Christopher's birthday. He turned 6 :) :( It is pretty sad to see my baby growing up, although I know that it is bound to happen. He shares a b-day with my dad (by choice since I had a scheduled c/s with him), which they both think is rather cool :) My dad gets off work for his birthday so weeks ago, we decided to take C out of school and do something fun for his b-day. Thanks to Henny Penny we were pointed to the Furrow winery and Red Barn Pumpkin Patch in El Paso Il. We took the kids there and it was pretty nice. Unlike Curtis ORchard, you don't pay extra for everything you do. There is a $3 charge for each kid, but adults are free. Unfortunately, since it was a Friday morning, there was a lot of stuff going on. They had a "straw castle", a bounce house, a corn maze, and a small petting zoo with goats and sheep. They also had some vehicles, a boat, a tractor and a truck, sunk into the ground that the kids could play on. We were there about 45 minutes before the 55 degrees, ominous clouds and 40 mile an hour winds proved to be too much for us. Mom and dad stopped at the winery on the way out then we surprised the kids with Chuck E Cheese for lunch. They both loved it with Lizzie running around exclaiming "I NEED another token" every few minutes. Finally we handed over the cup and she went and sat on the "vet truck" ride and just fed it token after token after token. Christopher was thrilled to get to play all the video games with paw-paw. When we came in, they asked if we were celebrating anything today and we told them birthdays. So they gave them both balloons with their ages written on them and birthday crowns to wear. Dad passed his stuff on to Lizzie :) As we were wrapping things up, Chuck E came and sang them happy birthday and they were presented with an ice cream sandwich with a candle in it. C apparently does not like ice sandwiches so he let paw-paw have it all. We rounded up all of our tickets to turn in and found out we were 15 tickets short of getting the thing he wanted. I took a dollar and went and played skee ball and won him 23 tickets. He was able to get a Spiderman pencil set that included a bag, a pencil, a notebook, an eraser, and a pencil sharpener. With the 10 extra tickets, Lizzie got a Tootsie Roll. Then it was home for presents. My mom got C a Nintendo DS, we got him the Shrek the 3rd game to go with it. From Lizzie was the "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" and a couple of other small things.
Today, we had his party. He invited 3 friends from school and their families. I'm so excited to report that they all showed up! This is only his 3rd year having kids at his party and in the past, it hasn't gone so well. Anyway, J and J, B and A, and L and L and their moms all made it, plus grandma Jan, Grandma Elsie, Grandma Jill, and Paw-paw Randy were all here. We had a Harry Potter party and we had beautiful weather so we were able to do it all in the back yard. We set up a canopy and decorated the front with a banner that had the trio on it and said "A Magical Day", then we took gold and crimson (Griffendor colors) streamers and hung them around the sides of the canopy, as well as the flag pole, driveway reflector and the gate in the front. When the kids got here, we let them play for awhile and then we had the decorate their treat bags (you can't buy HP treat bags. I looked everywhere and couldn't find them or things to go in them) with my super fun stamp/markers and HP stickers. While mom stuffed the treats into the treat bags, I had the kids play Bingo. We played until everyone had won a prize and then we let them go play and swing in the trees somemore (we have a magnolia tree that everyone that comes over loves to climb in because it has nice low branches). While they did that, mom and I set out the cake and ice cream. Then I made all the kids gather for a picture and then we served everything. Most of the kids didn't eat the cake but they all managed to make a terrific mess. :) Then presents. C got a Power Ranger gear set from J, die cast trucks from B and a Wolverine toy from L. Plus, he got a TRU gift card from Uncle Dave, a movie gift card from Grandma Jill and money from the other grandmas. Between the GC and the cash, he had $55 to spend. After everyone left, I made him help me write the thank you notes (I wrote, he signed) and then we went shopping. TRU has Buy 2 get one free right now on video games. He was able to get Scooby Doo: Who's watching Who, Spongebob:The Creature From the Krusty Krab, and Power Rangers for the BGA (which the ds will play)for $37. Then, while we were there, mom decided to get him the accsesory pack, which includes small boxes for the games, a car plug, screen protectors, headphones, extra stylus and cover for the system. Then she bought him a bag to carry it all in. She told him that is part of his Xmas, but I know she will buy him something else because that is what she does when she says something is for Xmas ahead of time :)
And now it is bedtime, for having 8 children at my house wears me out. I didn't even do much with the kids, but the running and fetching and organizing was more than enough to knock me out.
