Tonight, I was watching CSI and the opening scene is of a dog barking. The man and woman are laying on the bed and he says to her "it is your turn to deal with that dog" She said the dog was probably tormenting a opossum.
I was planning to switch over the clothes and paused the show. As I got up, I commented to RF "This is CSI. If the dog is barking, you are probably going to fine a dead body on your lawn and it won't be a opossum" then I walked away.
RF: Well, the dog has quit barking and the lady hasn't come back yet
Me: Uh, I PAUSED it
RF: Oh. Shut up, I hate you

Big Lovers
People that watch Big Love, I just finished season 2 on DVD and I'm starting on season 3. I feel like I've seriously missed something. Barb is getting a CAT scan, Niki is working, Margie had the baby, etc. Is this right, am I missing episodes?

Big update-y update
So Purple Cow accused me of being inconsistant in my blogging. I seriously have 15 posts written in my head that just never make it to the page. When I sit down at the computer, it sucks all the brain out of my head and with it my posts. Plus, I'm in a winter slump and the deepest thoughts I can manage are what clothes to wear each day. Normally, I don't do updates that often because I see a lot of you regularly and I figure the rest don't care about my day to day stuff. But there is a lot of stuff to talk about so you are getting a paragraph update :)
I picked up my van tonight from Tatman's. In case you don't know, it was parked at Christie parking lot a couple of weeks ago and a guy was pulling into the space in front of it and missed the break, hitting the gas instead. I had a couple of puncture holes in the front bumper but he busted his radiator. It still cost over $800 to get it fixed. We took it in yesterday and I have driving a Grand Prix for the last 2 days. Even though it was a "full size" car, it was tiny and little and I'm super glad to have my van back.
I some super b-day presents all ready for my upcoming celebration. I'm trying to decide if the Happy Bunny would be acceptable as a purse :)
Looseyfur commented the other day "well you guys don't have jobs so it is ok" I knew what she meant and it didn't bother me. However, I've been filling out some online surveys and then yesterday at Enterprise it happened too. The guy askd where I worked and I said "at home" because I dare anyone to tell me that a SAHM doesn't work and he said "what is the business name" I told him no name (although I should make one up and just use it from now on), I was a SAHM and he said "oh, so you don't work at all them" WTF? Seriously?
Apparently, I don't possess the ability to suspend disbelief enough for Lost. I can read all these wacky vampire books where vamps and witches and shapeshifters and demons are all real. I can watch Lost and buy smoke monsters, polar bears in the jungle, secret organizations doing experiments, etc etc etc. But time travel? No way, get real! LOL
It occured to me today (after busting Quigs' chops a little about not posting) that I hadn't logged into Blogger for 3 days. No wonder I didn't think anyone had updated. Duh!
This kid is all kinds of awesome! I wonder if he needs plain folk support for his cause? (I'll post a video of his interview if I can find it)
Finally a conversation with MT.
MT: yak yak yak, something about laser tag
Me: nods head
MT: yak yak something else about laser tag (I swear to God she talked about laser tag for over 10 minutes by this point in the conversation, I had moved on)
Me: nods again
MT: MOM, you need to respond to me when I talk to you!
Me:I did respond, I nodded
MT: Well I can't hear your brain rattle, now can I?
ROFL

It's a nerd alert
When TB was little, probably 18 months or a little younger, Discovery channel premiered "Walking with Dinosaurs". Because he is born from a family of nerds, we watched it on TV. He was mesmerized by it and just stared in awe at the show. When a commercial would come on, he would wonder off and play but came back for more dinosaurs when the show would start back up. He was not a "TV stupor" kid (and still doesn't just WATCH TV, instead he interacts and plays his own things while it is on) so that was pretty amazing. A couple of years ago, I found the DVD and bought it for him for Christmas. He watched it a few times but wasn't as impressed anymore.
Today, we got home from school and he was looking for something to watch while he had his snack and found the DVD. He came running into the kitchen, yelling "look what I found, look what I found! Can I please watch it" Sure, you bet. Walking with Dinosaurs is at least educational and better than Drake and Josh by a long shot. I put it in and he is now sitting on the couch, eating his snack and, aside from occasionally commenting on the things that are happening on screen (like that the baby just got eaten), he is in total "TV stupor".
I'm not sure I have ever seen him so still before in my life! Maybe this is what I need to play at bedtime so he will stay in bed during evening TV time.

Good things
I watched Surivor last night and was LMAO at the strategy. Bob and sugar rock! And um, I don't like Crystal but her yelling at the camera cracked me up. LOL
I ordered my new battery on Amazon. Dell sells it for 130. Amazon marketplace sells it for 58. No contest. Even though the Amazon one is an after market, there is no way I would over twice the price for a name brand.

Get Lost
When Lost came on the air, I thought "that looks interesting" but then through a series of errors, I never managed to see it. After several weeks, it sounded less and less like anything I would actually enjoy so I pretty much wrote it off. I did put season 1 and 2 on hold at the library, so that, at some point, should I find myself without anything better to watch, I could give it a try. But honestly, I thought all the rabid Lost fans were more than a little crazy.
Sometime came a few weeks ago. I couldn't get the series that I had started (Sex and the City) and it wasn't very good anyway so I decided to release season 1 and see what the deal was. I watched it and I liked it a lot. I loved Hurley and Charlie and Claire. I like Sawyer and Kate (and especially later) and Jack (although I could do without his hero complex) and the premise of the show was interesting. While I was watching season 1, I commented to my mom that she might like it since she enjoys sci-fi (and there is a serious sci-fi premise to the show) and gave her the disks I was done with. She watched them over the course of a couple of days and was begging for the rest. She got absolutely hooked and so did I. I promptly put season 3 on hold so we would have some chance of getting it before the end of time. I just finished season 3 last night and I'm all WTF.
I've started watching season 4 on abc.com (Fortunately, abc keeps their stuff up for a while, some of the other channels take things down after a few weeks) but I'm only about 10 minutes into the first episode, where Hurley has the high speed chase. Quigs has been waiting anxiously for to get the season 4 so she can talk to me about it. Fortunately, Rogers is a completely rabid fan and has been discussing it with me as I go along. She has also been filling in some blanks that I have been too anxious to wait for.
I'm DYING to know more. Why does Walt keep popping in, about once a season? Why did Hurley have a high-speed chase? Who was waiting for Kate when she was talking to crazy Jack? Why couldn't the Charlie character continue? (Rogers said it was the actor's choice because he thought his run was done, but I think he is stupid) Who is the invisible guy that Ben talks to? Who are the people on the "rescue" ship? And ultimately, what is the deal with the island? My MIL thinks everyone is dead and the island is limbo. Those that "die" on the island have simply passed on. Rogers says the writers say no but could be lying. That makes me sad because I like that theory way better than the time travel on they keep bringing up.

Retro TV
Dude, I'm watching Doogie Howser and it is so awesome. I love NPH now in How I Met Your Mother and he was super in Dr Horrible (did anyone hear that there is more DH coming? Not sure how creditable the article I read was) but little baby NPH is so adorable :)

Row row row your boat
We took the boats out for the first time this year (and for the first time in a couple of years because things just haven't worked out to get them out in awhile). The Boy got to paddle his own boat which he thought was the COOLEST thing ever. Ms Thang rode in the tandem with me and my mom. She was pretty impressed with the tricks RF was doing in "the little boat" but not terribly impressed with actually being in the boat. In the past, Mom has sat in the front of the boat and held the kids. One trip, she felt she needed a paddle because she wanted to help paddle the boat. The problem is that you have to work a lot harder to control the boat from the front and the back person needs to be the one in charge. She is a control freak and wouldn't either stop paddling or listen when I told her to do something. That adventure ended with me telling her to "put the damn paddle away before I beat you with mine" Since then, we don't even take a paddle for her because life is better for everyone. Today, she got it in her head that she needed her own paddle. Apparently, she forgot the threatened beating. I argued and argued with her about it but she refused to give in. We got to the lake and unloaded and as we were getting the paddles out and together, we discovered that we had 3 female paddles and only 1 male paddle. Meaning, I was the only one who got a split paddle and she had to sit in the front and entertain her grandchild and not irritate me with the paddle. Apparently, the universe agreed with me that she needed to leave it alone!
RF was playing in his boat, doing a few tricks but decided that the water was really too cold to be under too often (although he says it wasn't "January 1st cold" so it is warmer than other water he has been in). MT was unimpressed with being in the boat in general. She really wanted to do it, in theory so maybe she'll grew into a little bit as summer goes on. We paddled around the lake, under the bridge and then back. The kids got out and had a snack, then dad took TB back out and pulled him around under the bridge. RF, MT and my mom took the tandem and I took pictures of everybody that will likely never see the light of day because I'm a big slacker like that. :)
Now, I'm watching the new American Gladiators and then I'm getting ready for bed.
Tomorrow, I need to clean up the house (especially the kitchen) then we have a cookout in the afternoon. Hopefully MT does ok with the dog that will be at the cookout because her drama queen freak outs irritate the snot out of me.

Good times
Yesterday we went to McD's with Quigs and Looseyfur and let the kids run wild. Quigs has been in a funk and avoiding people and Looseyfur has been house bound with a sicky and the both needed some time out. Plus, when I suggested McD's for dinner Lizzie begged for Quigs to go. LOL
Today, C had his first 4-H meeting. It wasn't exactly how I remember 4-H being but we shall see once he really gets going in it. He picked Bicycles as his project so now he needs to do a poster about either bicycle maitenence or safety. We haven't talked about it specifically yet but we will see what he wants later.
Then, we had my grandma, great grandma, aunt, uncle and cousin over for a Mother's Day cookout. We had roast pork loin that was super tasty! My cousin (who is 15 or 16) spent most of the afternoon hanging out and playing with Lizzie. She thought that was the coolest thing ever and kept talking about how he was her best friend.
Then, we had the playgroup over for S'mores. I was FREAKED that it was going to rain because it was getting super dark and the radar showed rain all over the area. It held off though and everyone had a super time. The kids ran around and played in the yard and the drive. Thanks to the dads who hung out in the drive shooting hoops with the kids. Evan even made a friend tonight. He hung with Quigs' husband and talked video games and then invited him to his game night, which is seriously nerd central LOL
I put the kids in bed and they were asleep before I was out of the shower because they were super tired. Now, I'm planning to put the cloths in the dryer, finish watching One Tree Hill and go to bed myself.
Tomorrow, I get my awesome mother's day gifts, then we are going to breakfast with my cousin from MN. We are going to be up there in 3 weeks but she came down to visit some of her (she actualy isn't my cousin, she married my cousin but close enough) family that lives down here and called us to get together tomorrow.

Dorkiness and good things
First of all, the only time I get to watch TV that isn't kid's shows during the day is during Lizzie's nap. I am outrageously excited to point out that one of my favorites shows of all time just happens to be on in this time frame. I get to watch Jeopardy! everyday and it makes me very happy! :)
As most of you know, I like to read. I joined a forum last year called "50 books a year" thinking that was a fairly lofty goal. By the end of the year, I had 65 books, not counting infinate children's books. I was really impressed with myself. Then I read Misc's Real Simple List and found out that she read 90 books last year! 90 freaking books! That is a whole lotta books. So I have decided to challenge myself to read at least that many this year. So far, I'm at 27 books for the year and I have 2 more sitting on my desk waiting to be read and 4 that should be in any day from the library (I'm ankle deep in 3 or 4 different series and can't seem to get any of the books in so I keep starting new ones to have something to read). I need to average just short of 2 books a week and thus far, I'm right on target, 15 weeks into the year. I think I'm going to have to step my game up if I want to read 90 books this year.
Finally, I have managed to get ACDSee 10 recognize my v9 database and tags as having tags. Now, I just have to figure out how to import them so I don't have to load off the CD all the time. Probably easier said than done, just like everything else with this stupid upgrade but hopefully I'll figure it out sooner rather than later :)

The morality of Survivor
At a discussion board I visit, there is a thread about Survivor. In it, someone mentioned they were glad to see Jonny Fairplay go home because he is a jerk. I mentioned that I liked him and was sad to see him go so early in the game. While he was talking about how he wanted to go home, I kept thinking "what kind of scam is he running" I also said that I like the strategy the fireman is (or was, we'll see if it changes) employeeing as far as getting people together to vote people off. I tend to like the people who play dirty on those shows because that is the point of that kind of show. The person that I was discussing this with brought up the issue of wanting people who are nice to and i countered that playing dirty and being ruthless is the way of the world. No one that is extremely successful is a nice person. She brought up the issue of what her watching those types of shows is teaching her children and that got me thinking.
Does everything in life have to some morally redeeming quality or are people allowed to have guilty pleasures? On one hand, my previous statement that ruthlessness is a way of life stands. Of course, there is the caveat that success is how you define it. Am I successful? I would say yes. I'm a good mother, I work hard, etc. I'm by no means rich but I'm succesful at what I've chosen to do. When I talk about being successful for this arguement, I would define that by being rich, since the point of these shows is to win money.
On the other hand, it could be used to start the conversation of "yes there are people like this in real life, but they aren't the people that anyone wants to be around" Rob and Amber are a perfect example of that. Rob screwed people left and right to get to the final two and at the end, no one would vote for him to win because EVERYONE hated him (it still worked in his favor by marrying the winner but if he hadn't he would have just been a jerk).
So, this post sounded a lot better in my head. I've spent over an hour writing it here though because I keep getting distracted (Make me a Supermodel is funny) and it didn't come out as profound as it sounded when I first started working on it. :(

Fall TV
I went through the TV list to see what I would be watching this fall. I made an Excel spreadsheet a couple of months ago with times of all the shows I thought I wanted to watch. There have been a few additions and now I have premiere dates so it is all good. I'm going to try and add it to my sidebar, if I can get the Excel file to upload easily :)

Who says that
C will occasionly "adopt" a tv character to come and live with us for awhile. The most recent one has been some cartoon cats (I called them Thundercats but he says that isn't right). When he was telling me about them, I was asking him questions like if they were litter trained (no, they use the potty), where they were going to sleep (in my bed, of course) and what kinds of things they eat. His response to that was "food, like rational humans" Tehe Then when dh was quizzing him about it, he told us all about they were taking him on a rocket ride tomorrow and they brought their own tooth brushes, so they won't have to borrow. They did forget their pillows so they are sharing with C.
He just peeked over the rail of his bed and asked us to turn down the TV so that he could get his beauty sleep. If he doesn't get that, he can't go on the rocket ride tomorrow.

World Series of Pop Culture
I have been watching this show for the last 2 weeks on VH1. I'm kind of a trivia junky and pop culture is my thing so I expected to do really well on this. I have been amazed at the things I didn't know and the things I did. They had a Patrick Swayze quote catagory the other night and I expected to bomb on it, since I've only ever seen one of his movies more than once, and most not at all. Out of 6 questions, I got 5 right and the one I missed, I had never even heard of the movie. Then tonight, they had a Dirty Dancing catagory. I was thinking "I've got this locked because I've seen the movie a million times" (the one PS movie I have seen, repeatedly). I got 1 freaking question right (what does Baby help carry that allows her to meet Johnny). The others, like what was Baby's real name and what was the name of the resort, I totally missed and should have known.
I told Evan I'm going to be on the show next year. I will either get a team together (my dad and someone else that is a trivia junky) or I will play on Almost Perfect Strangers 3.0, which is the internet team that don't know each other before hand.

Lizzie loves the Wonder Pets
When I try to imbed this, it says no video so I'm just posting the link and you guys will have to go watch it. :)

Also, I think she watches too much TV. She woke me up at 3 this morning by repeatedly hitting me and saying "mommy, I watch toons?" over and over. When I told her no (it was 3 in the freaking morning) she screamed and yelled until I promised to watch Wonderpets with her this morning.
